Kindful Movement

A community-oriented class for people to move together to learn from each other. The classes teach participants at very different levels to discover their own strengths while supporting others in the group. Moving with friends gives everyone an opportunity to address their own individual needs, move at their own capacity in a social atmosphere that builds community with peers while moving with others in the class.

As they engage in a regular exercise program, each person discovers what movement expression fits their intellectual, emotional, and physical disabilities and capacity. The emphasis in KM is to develop a kindful daily movement practice that helps the body and mind refresh and recharge at any time, anywhere. Creative movement classes incorporate traditional adaptive yoga asanas, and dance techniques, that are performed with a focus on empathy and compassion towards self and others.

Kindful Movement instructors use kinesthetic empathy to understand the needs of the participants, and explore safe constructive ways to move the body at the individual's physical, intellectual, and/or emotional development. Many participants have conditions that affect multiple body parts or systems, with limited mobility (wheelchairs), and a new awareness of the bodily self, will provide them with some tension release. At the end of the program; the participants will be creating a movement practice of their own, and many will be presenting their exercises in a video to share with friends.
